Meet Liane
“I get very excited about the brain and the body and understanding how they work, so part of my focus with people is exploring some basic neuroscience, neuroplasticity and physiology, and I find this comes with so many 'aha!' moments. I help people cultivate self-care, compassion and kindness, as it often feels this is a place to start and it can be very difficult for many of us. I am passionate about the teachings on impermanence, loss and grief, and how it can enrich our lives.
For most of my life I have longed for a simpler life, something different from the overwhelming amount of stimulation there is available and the constant striving for more. A regular meditation practice came to me ten years ago, as often these things do, from a difficult period in my life - like the lotus growing from the mud! Through practising and studying meditation and mindfulness, I have found simplicity, balance, calm and ease. Not only that but a strength and confidence I never knew I had.
I also run a small charity, Sustainable Sussex, with my partner and we are developing a Community Farm in Sompting, UK, where people come to together to connect with themselves, each other and nature, grow food, learn and share skills, and together be resilient for the present and for the future.”
Liane is a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, as a graduate from Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach’s Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Programme (MMTCP) in 2021. Liane went on to complete the Mindfulness Mentoring Training (MMT) with Cloud Sangha in 2022.
Liane began teaching mindfulness in 2016 after gaining a teaching diploma in Mindfulness, Meditation and Relaxation with SMARTfoundations in Brighton, UK. She started teaching at a community project in an area of top 5% social deprivation in the country, and after a few years Liane was running 18 courses in a year across two towns. During this time, Liane founded The Sustainable Mind, where she teaches and mentors people to support their mental health and wellbeing with a focus on reducing stress and anxiety, and increasing self-care.
Liane also guides groups of meditators from all over the world and facilitates mindful friend’s groups for Banyan at https://banyantogether.com
